Slumberous serene pads, feedbacking tones, and flittering noise-textures: Slow is a customisable sound library of pads and soundscapes inspired by the sound design of pioneering ambient producers. This versatile tool is ideal for creating atmosphere and emotion in your ambient and cinematic music.
62 oscillators in a three-layer engine
Slow runs inside Floe — which allows you to load each of Slow's 63 sounds into three layers and process them with envelopes, filters, LFOs and a complete rack of effects. The product also includes 100 categorized presets and randomization tools to find inspiration quickly.
Slow can be used to create ambient and cinematic pads with a serene crisp, crystalline modern edge. Each of the 63 ‘oscillators’ that make up Slow were carefully created from synthesisers, granulizers and organic sources. You’ll find subdued ambient tones, but also sounds with lush high frequencies, feedback qualities and rich overtones.
These 63 samples are organised into two categories: Tonal and Textures. The Tonal category is the main one and consists of pleasant single-note instruments with occasional dissonant or multi-note instruments. The Textures category features various noise texture sounds that are designed to layer with the tonal sounds to create soundscapes.
100 presets
Slow features 100 production-ready presets categorised into six folders: Basses, FX, Keys, Noise Textures, Pads and Pulsers – with Pads being the most significant. Each preset is a playable instrument that can be easily tweaked to fit your track or used as-is. As suggested by the category names, Slow is capable of a bit more than just ambient pads – it can be used to fill out the low end or add haunting textural elements and tonal accompaniment.
Inspired by ambient music pioneers
Slow is inspired by the sound design of ambient music pioneers such as Tim Hecker, Boards of Canada, Stars Of The Lid, Oneohtrix Point Never, Mark Pritchard, and Benoit Pioulard. These artists each explored a different avenue of ambient music; however, a common thread of breathless multitimbral sound design can be found, often more complex with overtones than the ambient music of Brian Eno. We’ve tried to capture elements of these sounds and create a useful tool for a wide range of ambient and cinematic music.

Slow runs inside Floe, FrozenPlain’s free, open-source sample library player and the direct successor to the Mirage engine.

The new Floe version of Slow uses the same samples as the Kontakt original, with minor tuning adjustments. Both engines offer similar capabilities, but the Floe version may provide a faster sound design workflow and an easier-to-use interface that matches other FrozenPlain products. Floe will see continued development and improvements. Additionally, the new version includes 100 new presets. The old presets are not available in the new version.
