Slumberous serene pads, feedbacking tones, and flittering noise-textures: Slow is a customisable sound library of pads and soundscapes inspired by the sound design of pioneering ambient producers. This versatile tool is ideal for creating atmosphere and emotion in your ambient and cinematic music.
Note: This video shows Mirage, now succeeded by Floe. All features shown are available in Floe with full compatibility.
Slow draws from the sound design of ambient pioneers like Tim Hecker, Boards of Canada, Stars Of The Lid, Oneohtrix Point Never, Mark Pritchard, and Benoit Pioulard. While each artist explored different avenues of ambient music, they share a breathless multitimbral complexity—often richer in overtones than Brian Eno's foundational work. We've captured these sonic elements to create a versatile tool for ambient and cinematic music.
Each of Slow's 63 oscillators was carefully crafted from synthesizers, granulizers, and organic sources. You'll find subdued ambient tones alongside sounds with lush high frequencies, feedback qualities, and rich overtones.
The sounds are organised into two categories: Tonal and Textures. Tonal forms the core, featuring pleasant single-note instruments with occasional dissonant or multi-note variations. Textures provides noise elements designed to layer with tonal sounds and build immersive soundscapes.
Slow includes 100 production-ready presets across six categories: Basses, FX, Keys, Noise Textures, Pads, and Pulsers—with Pads as the centerpiece. Each preset is a playable instrument, ready to use as-is or easily tweaked to fit your track. Beyond ambient pads, Slow can fill out low end, add haunting textures, or provide tonal accompaniment.
Slow runs inside Floe, a free and open-source sample library platform. Download once, use with all FrozenPlain libraries and beyond.
