When you download a Mirage library, you get a ZIP file containing 2 folders: Libraries
and Presets
.
Open Mirage in your DAW, click the “Open Mirage Folder” button.
Put the contents of the ZIP's Libraries
into Mirage’s Libraries
folder.
Put the contents of the ZIP's Presets
into Mirage’s Presets
folder.
Restart your DAW.
This is a manual process for now, but will soon be automated.
Prerequisites: download your Mirage library, and install Mirage v2.0.5 if you haven’t already.
Open Mirage in your DAW, then click the “Open Mirage Folder” button. This is where you’ll put the library’s files. I don't have this button
Double-click to open/extract the library ZIP file (likely in your Downloads folder).
Inside you'll find Libraries
and Presets
folders, and a License file.
Put the contents of the library’s Libraries
folder into your
Mirage’s Libraries
folder — opened in step 1. Do the exact same for Presets
.
You can drag-and-drop or copy-paste.
You can also (optionally) copy the License file over for your future reference.
Finally, close and re-open your DAW. Mirage will now see the new library and its presets.
If everything is working, you can delete the library ZIP file (and its extracted folder if that was created).
To install your Mirage library to an external drive (or any non-default location), the process is the same for 'presets' part of the installation, but different for the 'libraries' part.
Mirage library ZIP files consist of 2 folders: Libraries
and Presets
. The Libraries
folder contains the library’s data
(.mdata format). This can be a large file which you might want to keep on an external
drive. However, the Presets
folder is always tiny and can be kept in it's default location.
Follow the same steps as above: copy the library's Presets
folder into
Mirage’s Presets
folder just as it says. But for the Libraries
folder, copy its contents to
your external drive instead — you might want to create a folder called Mirage Libraries
there that will contain the libraries.
You now need to tell Mirage where you have put the library files. Re-open Mirage. Open
the side panel. Click on the '+' button just right of the word 'Libraries'. A window
will appear: navigate to your Mirage Libraries
folder on your external drive
and select the library file (.mdata). Mirage will now remember this location. You must do
this for each library you have installed.
If you want to move your libraries, you can remove each library location by right-clicking on the library button in the side panel, and then re-add it with the new location.
Mirage’s successor, Floe, has a robust automatic system for installing libraries and presets. It handles file collisions, versioning, multiple-separate install locations (such as external drives) and “just works”. Floe is not ready yet. Stay tuned for updates.
Before 29th November, 2024, Mirage used a different installer. The old installer would install both Mirage and its libraries. It required you to enter either your email and password or a download-ticket. That installer is no longer available. Instead you must install Mirage first, and then install your libraries separately.
